I'm in !
This collection is based on the importance recycling in our daily lives.
Quirky, cheerful and engaging designs with a strong message of reuse-reduce and recycle- to brighten up any space!
Why this concept?
Lots of people changed their habits during lockdown, mostly because they had to. But spending more time at home also made people more eco-conscious. We got a chance to reflect and reset our habits.
So, I thought, this is the perfect timing to launch designs based on recycling, these designs on a coffee mug, personal diary or a tea towel, will be reminiscent of those positive habits - like living more sustainably - into the ‘new normal’ that we learnt in lockdown.
Research and process;
My research included frequent walks along the Swansea beach, observing and photographing found plastics, scrap metals and wrappers. I then collected a range of samples that included pieces of fishing nets along with seaweed from the beach and some discarded items from daily life like milk cartons, plastic gallons, crisps packets and paper.
I started with a simple collage of items that I used to draw from , it was then scanned and enhanced digitally. I feel amazed when I look at my designs - actual beautiful patterns from waste!
Collecting textures from found objects and then adding some fresh drawings is my all-time favourite way of starting a design process.
Without access to any printing equipment , I had no choice but to play with all I had at home and I absolutely loved it , making a scrap metal bird ,a collage of containers, painting bottles and doing makeup on them , I feel amazed that I have created these designs literally from waste !
